Fogg in the Cockpit
MSRP: $32.95 (Catalog No. 9781612000046) Often referred to as the dean of American railroad artists, Howard Fogg's career spanned half a century and some 1,200 paintings. However, few of his enthusiasts have been aware of his career as a fighter pilot in the U.S. 8th Air Force during World War II. Fortunately Fogg left behind a diary, proving himself as adept with a pen as with a brush.
Based in England with the 359th Fighter Group, Captain Fogg flew 76 missions in bomber escort and ground attack roles at the controls of P-47s and P-51s. From his backstage encounter in a London theater with Lawrence Olivier and Vivian Leigh, to the chaplain's benediction on D-Day, to a mission escorting B-17s near the snow-capped Alps to drop supplies to French freedom fighters, his diary offers a firsthand look at his fascinating wartime career.
The diary is supplemented with material by Richard and Janet Fogg, and incorporates photographs, examples of Howard’s early paintings, political cartoons, sketches, and paintings that typify his railroad art. From the details of the airmen's life to the decisions that affected their fates, Fogg in the Cockpit presents a hidden side of one of the 20th century's great artistic geniuses.

MSRP: $13.99 (Catalog No. #200) Heritage Scale Models, 272 N725W, Hobart, IN 46342, has released its latest resin kit, Kit #200-HO Scale-Coal Storage Piles for Retail Coal Yards & Small Engine Terminals.
The Heritage Scale Models kit is based on open air coal storage piles that were once a common site in retail coal yards that lacked enclosed storage facilities and used portable conveyors to unload coal from hopper cars and reload coal into delivery trucks. They could also be seen at branchline and shortline engine terminals that used portable conveyors or cranes with clamshell buckets to load coal into steam engine tenders.
Cast in realistic black resin, each kit contains (3) three castings consisting of (2) two full coal piles and (1) one partially depleted pile. The castings can be directly placed onto layout scenery or may be cut to fit open storage bins. The model kit retails for $13.99.

The Clearance Car will aid modelers in identifying areas that may encroach in the right of way. The Clearance Car kit consists of an expandable rolling platform with 3 wooden templates based on the NMRA's Standards and Recommended Practices for track clearances. For each scale we offer 3 kits: narrow gauge, Pre-1984, and Modern. The narrow gauge and Pre-1984 versions have break off tabs that allow for two different clearance profiles. The expandable frame can be configured to different lengths to allow users to evaluate side clearances base on their rolling stock lengths. The Clearance Car is available in N, HO, S, and O scales. Trucks and couplers will be included on HO and On30 models. The Clearance Car is a very easy to assemble kit and can be completed in an evening or two.

Transfer Barge
MSRP: $99.95 (Catalog No. HO-103) This small transfer barge is based on one used by the Canadian Pacific ca. 1890-1910s. It is typical of the small wood transfer barges used on inland waters. This barge will accommodate a maximum of six 36' cars with the double rail configuration. As with all large wood barges, king posts and hogging cables provided the necessary support. A crude wood ladder provided access to the cable turnbuckles for tension adjustments. Scuttle hatches allowed access into the barge interior for maintenance and the mandatory bilge pumping.
This kit allows the modeler to use their own desired rails and gauge (standard or narrow). Built for double track, a single standard gauge will also work. Rail may be powered by soldering a small phosphor bronze pickup to the rail (makes for an easy connection when the barge is butted up to transfer bridge).
Instructions are full color and provided on a CD-ROM.

We are pleased to announce the purchase of Westerfield Models from Al Westerfield, effective November, 2011. The 29 year tradition of museum quality HO models from Westerfield will continue under the name Westerfield Models, LLC and the new owner Andrew Dahm. The current westerfieldmodels.com website will remain active. The new owner has over twenty years of experience both in museum restorations of full size freight cars as well as modeling in HO. All of the current products offered will continue to be available and new items will be developed as time allows. Westerfield Models will be relocated to Golden, Colorado. We look forward to continuing the Westerfield tradition of quality HO models and plan to accept new orders in early 2012. Please check our website for further announcements.
